The Tai Chi form is comprised of 37 steps or movements and is divided into four sections, however as some of the movements are repeated we actually perform 49. We teach each section in 3 parts that each take around 10 weeks complete.
We have found that the most effective way for students to learn Tai Chi is to begin by training the form as set of external movements where accuracy is emphasised. Once comfortable with the external movements students then learn how to apply Tai Chi principles into the movement, which is what makes Tai Chi an internal art. Finally as the student begins to become aware and more immersed in the movements of the Tai Chi form, the training goes deeper where the emphasis is on becoming fully relaxed and synchronised practicing the Tai Chi form as one connected flow. This then allows students to produce the relaxed force (fajin); the secret power of Tai Chi.
It is a gradual process but the benefits begin immediately by starting to create balance and harmony, breaking down tension and stress, creating a sense of equilibrium.

A gentle yoga class to calm and refresh your body and mind, for beginners and those wanting a slower practice. Each class ends with calming breathing techniques and a long guided relaxation.

Feel taller, stronger, younger and more relaxed!
Come and join our friendly class and give your body what it needs! Suitable for all levels, you’ll learn and practice classic Pilates exercises plus some modern variations in a relaxed atmosphere. Men welcome too. Each move is broken down clearly to make sure you’re doing it correctly. Regular pilates brings huge benefits to body and mind, and can often relieve generalised back and neck pain. Please come and try a session for free if you’re new.

My approach to Yoga is based on the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli. There is no methodology and the postures are not a goal in themselves. The principles that underpin the work allow and invite us to move in a deep and satisfying way, becoming more aware of ourselves and the full possibility and promise of this practice.
In class we will explore postures together helping identify our individual habits and tensions with the intention of moving from a more integrated and freer place. My training in the Alexander Technique has deepened my respect for the work and desire to share.
Vanda made a science of undoing the body making the fullest use of the ground and the body.
Yoga for your lifestyle

A flowing vinyasa yoga class suitable for all with ex-dancer Tamsin. Vinyasa yoga works to coordinate breath and movement to offer a mediative flow from one posture to another in logically progressing sequences. Each week will have a different focus so that you are kept mentally alert and are physically challenged to try new things. Expect mobilising, core-strength building warm ups, sun salutation variations, graceful standing sequences, a slow seated stretch and a guided relaxation to finish.
Half termly booking is advisable. Drop in is currently available.
Gentle Hatha Yoga for the over 60’s

Wednesdays from 11am – 12pm midday
Join our small friendly class which is suitable for people with less mobility or who simply want a gentle practice. Stretches and postures will help to improve range of movement, as well as increase strength and stability.
The focus is on using the breath to help release tension and I give hands on assistance to enable you to get the most from your practice.
Booking essential: £54 for six classes which can be used over eight weeks.
Vajrasati Yoga with Helen Kowalski
Helen attended her first yoga class in 2000 and has been a follower ever since but it wasn’t until she discovered Vajrasati yoga in 2008 that she decided to train as a teacher, which began in 2009. She finds it combines her interests in spirituality, meditation and the workings of the body perfectly.
Vajrasati yoga combines the precise and detailed Iyengar yoga with the breathing and mindful approach of Hatha yoga and is rich and absorbing as a practice and philosophy, guiding the practitioner towards greater awareness. This refreshing and exciting approach to yoga is one that she would like to help pass on.
She holds a current 500hr yoga alliance certificate.

Building on a foundation of Pilates, to create an awareness and connection with your body, it works from the inside out to center, ground, stretch, strengthen,and thereby engender feelings of calm and resilience.
I draw on 20 years of exploring body mind and spirit, sessions draw on mindfulness, dance and yoga.
I am a qualified Matwork and Reformer Pilates Teacher originally with Body Control Pilates.
My classes are suitable for all abilities, we are a friendly committed group of supportive women
First taster class is free and then bookable by the half term at £8.50 per class.

Since I discovered the wonderful teachings of Vanda Scaravelli I have been passionate about sharing the liberating and empowering practise of Yoga. My teacher Diane Long is an exquisite example of Vanda’s teachings in action, and watching her practise, or indeed teach, has given me insights into the ancient principles that Yoga is truly about being “in the present moment”.
Classes are an opportunity for us to explore classical asanas in a lighthearted way, finding our own “un-doing” and giving each person the opportunity to find their own experience of the postures.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong for Health With Brian Saxton
This class is for anyone who wants to improve their general health, to move easier, breath better, feel more relaxed, and to enjoy living in a comfortable body.
The focus is on self healing through mindful movement exercises, by releasing the muscles, opening the body, freeing up the joint movement, increasing blood circulation, quietening the monkey mind and creating positive energy flow in the body. It does however require a quiet commitment to attend, and do the movements, but always keeping within your own comfort level and never straining.
These are powerful self-healing programs which help you increase your energy (chi) for health and energetic fitness, retraining and rejuvenating your nervous system. In this beginner’s class I set out and develop step by step the health and energy aspects of the various moves, building them into Qi gong sets

Tinklers is a fun music and movement session for babies and young children. It provides the opportunity for children to explore sounds , learn new songs and enjoy parachutes, scarves, hoops, bouncing ponds, puppets and much more !!! Becoming a music maker and meeting new friends creates a positive and fun environment for all to enjoy.
It takes place on Monday and Thursday mornings 9.15 – 12.15am.
Love & Lentils Dynamic – Ashtanga Yoga with Sumiya
Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic form of yoga that moves through a series of postures in a meditative way. Its physical benefits include toning, strengthening and detoxifying. It is also a great tool to quieten the mind.

Yoga for the over 50s
This is a very friendly class of people who are all over 50, some are well into their 70s and 80s. Some have recently started yoga and some have been practising for a very long time! Everyone is keen to maintain – or improve – their health, flexibility, strength and balance. We use a combination of gentle postures, breath work and short meditative practices which are all adaptable when necessary. That way everyone can work at their own pace and according to their own needs and aims.
And no one need think ‘I can’t do yoga!’
