Yoga classes with Chrissie Robilliard

Wednesdays drop-in 6.15pm – 7.45pm

My approach to Yoga is based on the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli. There is no methodology and the postures are not a goal in themselves. The principles that underpin the work allow and invite us to move in a deep and satisfying way, becoming more aware of ourselves and the full possibility and promise of this practice.

In class we will explore postures together helping identify our individual habits and tensions with the intention of moving from a more integrated and freer place. My training in the Alexander Technique has deepened my respect for the work and desire to share.

Vanda made a science of undoing the body making the fullest use of the ground and the body.

Drop-in cost £11 or pay £60 for 6 week block

Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Emily Scott

Mondays 12:15-1:30pm

Vinyasa Flow is a dynamic, flowing type of yoga that links the breath with the movement. Classes start with a centering warm-up, then proceed into Sun Salutations, a variety of flowing standing poses, balancing poses, a seated stretch section, and a closing relaxation and meditation. Every class is different, and there are ways to do every pose, regardless of someone’s level of flexibility or fitness.

At its most basic level, Vinyasa Flow yoga is a great workout and a good stretch. But as your practice develops, it can become a powerful moving meditation which strengthens the body while quieting the mind.

Movement Matters is a simple, guided movement practice. It helps you discover how you relate to yourself, others and the environment. It encourages you to find variations in your movements, challenges any fixed sense of self and gives you the space to create new choices through your body.

The class explores a different theme each week, cultivating an atmosphere of generosity and fun. See classes for weekly themes.

These classes are intended as an inner resource for you to experience yourself, including and celebrating however that may sound, feel or look in this moment. Tali offers gentle guidance, live sounding and music as a way of activating your wider vocabulary of movements.

About Tali: Tali Rose (MA) has trained extensively in various movement practices for the last ten years. She qualified in 2009 as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist and then went on to train with Dr Sandra Reeve for 5 years on her ‘Move into Life’ programme which follows the principles of Amerta Movement, including a year’s apprenticeship. She has also worked with movement artist and founder of Amerta Movement, SuPrapto Suryodarmo, Java.

Tali combines a love and fascination of everyday movement, a deep connection to nature and our environment and a strong belief in creating a platform for people to follow their own movements and really feel their freedom through their bodies on the stage of life.

Vajrasati Yoga with Helen Kowalski

Helen attended her first yoga class in 2000 and has been a follower ever since but it wasn’t until she discovered Vajrasati yoga in 2008 that she decided to train as a teacher, which began in 2009.

She finds it combines her interests in spirituality, meditation and the workings of the body perfectly.

Vajrasati yoga combines the precise and detailed Iyengar yoga with the breathing and mindful approach of Hatha yoga and is rich and absorbing as a practice and philosophy, guiding the practitioner towards greater awareness.

This refreshing and exciting approach to yoga is one that she would like to help pass on.

She holds a current 500hr yoga alliance certificate.

8-week Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Courses with Teresa Gane
Mindfulness is a way of being in the present moment that involves bringing a compassionate awareness to how we actually are at any given time.  This gives us an opportunity to be open to our experiences, notice how we relate to them and gives us a choice in how we deal with them. The training involves practising different meditations alongside movement and CBT exercises, with the aim of mindfulness becoming part of everyday life. The course is approved by NICE as an effective treatment for the prevention of relapse into low mood. Research has shown that practising mindfulness can also help with a range of physical and emotional difficulties including stress, anxiety and pain, as well as enhancing general wellbeing. Teresa has been teaching mindfulness since training with the Centre for Mindfulness, Bangor University, in 2008 and is supervised via the Mindfulness Network CIC. She is a member of Grow Mindfulness CIC, Brighton. There are two courses per term, taking place in the Lower Hall:

Since I discovered the wonderful teachings of Vanda Scaravelli I have been passionate about sharing the liberating and empowering practise of Yoga. My teacher Diane Long is an exquisite example of Vanda’s teachings in action, and watching her practise, or indeed teach, has given me insights into the ancient principles that Yoga is truly about being “in the present moment”.
Classes are an opportunity for us to explore classical asanas in a lighthearted way, finding our own “un-doing” and giving each person the opportunity to find their own experience of the postures.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong for Health With Brian Saxton
This class is for anyone who wants to improve their general health, to move easier, breath better, feel more relaxed, and to enjoy living in a comfortable body.
The focus is on self healing through mindful movement exercises, by releasing the muscles, opening the body, freeing up the joint movement, increasing blood circulation, quietening the monkey mind and creating positive energy flow in the body. It does however require a quiet commitment to attend, and do the movements, but always keeping within your own comfort level and never straining.
These are powerful self-healing programs which help you increase your energy (chi) for health and energetic fitness, retraining and rejuvenating your nervous system. In this beginner’s class I set out and develop step by step the health and energy aspects of the various moves, building them into Qi gong sets
For more information and to sign up go to the website.
Sorry no drop-ins.
